Caught 1 Mouse, odds of being more than one?
So I was gone from my apartment for a week, come back, and notice that the drawers connected to the area underneath my sink (lower cupboard in kitchen) had signs of rodent activity (droppings, chewed up oven mitts, etc... also found signs of dropping on the floor along the cupboards, and behind fridge/stove) So I set up a couple of traps one evening, and within hours I caught a mouse (in the drawer where the oven mitts were).
Now it's been 2 days since I caught that one mouse, no other signs thus far of any mice. I've got a trap placed inside the drawer still, and nearby on the floor (corner of cupboard). How long should I keep the traps there before it's a fairly safe bet that there's no others around?
I only worry because I have a strange feeling that if there's at least two, then there's definitely more than two.
There is always the possibility of a nest so there can way more than one. Our neighbour stores bird seed and that attracts the mice. We caught 13 in one weekend in our laundry. Best to set the traps and make sure. Have a look around and see if there is still mouse poo around, if there is then there is more around there. Also place traps in differant spots, mice are smart little varmints and soon figure out traps. Best bait I found was a small amount of peanut butter smeared at the back of the trap, got them every time!
