What is the advantage of cast iron gas hob frets over enamelled-or vice versa?
I have been searching on line for a new gas hob. Our present Bosch (approx 5 years old) has enamelled frets and have been carefully looked after. They still show bad signs of pitting. This was not a cheap cooker. Would cast iron be a better alternative. They are certainly more expensive, but do they rust or need more care. Any helpful experience would be appreciated. The cost of replacement parts makes it extremely prohibitive as they approach the cost of the new hob!!
The pitting you've experienced doesn't happen with cast iron. They discolour slightly but won't rust or burn badly.
I'd go for cast iron on my hob every time.
